How It Works

 

Social Venture Partners brings together partners’ money, time and talent to help reduce or prevent poverty in Toronto – and we educate our partners on how to be smart, strategic philanthropists.
 
Our unique model brings together grant making, volunteerism, non-profit capacity building, and philanthropic education:
 
  • Each partner makes a minimum pledge of $5000 per year. We also offer a special membership category called “half partners”, for those who donate a minimum of $2500. This is a great way for a couple to join together, and for a broad range of individuals from across our city to join our growing network. “Half partners” enjoy the same volunteer opportunities and programming as our full partners, and are entitled to a half vote each when selecting investees.
  • We pool our funds and make investment decisions together. Partners bring their collective expertise and resources to our investees -- promising non-profit organizations seeking new resources and approaches for addressing poverty in Toronto. Capacity-building investments made by Social Venture Partners include unrestricted cash grants and volunteer support in areas including marketing, finance, technology, strategic planning, and human resources management.
