Social Venture Partners Toronto Model
We seek to create significant, long-term social change in Toronto by achieving a dual mission:
- Expanding the Capacity of innovative nonprofits by investing our time, expertise, and money to collaboratively strengthen these organizations
- Expanding Philanthropy by educating individuals to be well informed, effective and engaged philanthropists
Nonprofit Capacity Building
At SVPT, we value innovation and the power of entrepreneurial spirit. Nonprofits with new and better solutions to Toronto’s problems are often young and imperfect organizations themselves. We understand this, and are willing to support the growth and development of these kinds of organizations. We work with them to build long-term capacity, rather than short-term projects or programs.
Our capacity-building investment model includes multi-year cash grants and customized consulting teams who work with the nonprofits to help them achieve their goals. SVPT Partners on the consulting teams provide support in areas including marketing, finance, technology, strategic planning, and human resources management. We set specific goals and track progress, knowing that we can all learn from our experiences and continuously improve the way we do our work and the results that we produce for the community. This “venture philanthropy” model is key to helping our investees achieve results that are not merely measurable…they are remarkable.
Expanding Philanthropy
The other half of the SVPT mission is to expand the community of philanthropists and deepen their commitment to addressing the needs of Toronto. Through engagement with Investees, collaboration with other SVPT Partners, and participation in educational events, Partners become more informed, committed philanthropists, often expanding their personal philanthropic contributions and activities to new levels.
